Because You Never Know..

Entry No. 231

This is graphic artist and writer, Aldo Mirizzi, he has lived around the corner from me for decades, we've said hello in passing but never chatted before.  Well, this weekend thanks to my obsession with figs, ( he has a tree in his back yard which I spotted loaded with uneaten fruit.), I've made two new friends in he and his fascinating, vivacious wife,  LaMae, also an artist. She and I talked for hours and among other interesting nuggets about the neighborhood, she revealed that Aldo's is the hand behind the Oakland icon, Merritt Bakery, logo.  Who knew?

He was kind enough to take a break from working for a chat and a picture.

The Universal Language

Entry No. 222

Julian only asked this Chinese musician the name of the instrument he was playing, (Julian loves it and we have asked him in the past but have forgotten).  He appears not to speak much English, but he was more than happy not only to give us the name, but to show my son how to play his Erhu.

How Did This Happen?

Entry No. 211

Somehow  a woman drove her SUV into a local tortilleria this morning about 9 am this morning.  It looked like everyone was fine, as there were no ambulances present.  I'm just glad my dog and I weren't there when it happened.  Yesterday at this time we were.
