I Almost Missed This

Entry No. 19

I was in the car on the freeway rushing to finish my errands,  when on the 360° interchange between the 24 and 13 I saw this out of the corner of my eye.  Errands would have to wait, because I couldn't resist pulling off to get this shot.  It was so sunny on our side of the Bay I hadn't even imagined that the Golden Gate could possibly be shrouded in clouds today. But there was the bridge, just barely peeking out.

Crown Point Curliques

Entry No. 18

On first glance I wasn't sure this was the right place to find today's wonder, but on closer inspection I found these random, delightful swirls in the Pampus grass.

What's Going On?

Entry No. 17

My son pointed this cloud out to me today when we were in Albany.   He calls them "tornado clouds".  We saw one almost exactly like it yesterday afternoon in Marin, before that I had not noticed any clouds in that shape around here.  What's going on?

Sometimes You Just Have To Chuck It All and Go To Sonoma

Entry No. 16

Where some folks might see a carefully manicured spot to have a glass of wine, my boy sees and Elevated Track made just for him.

Brugmansia

Entry No. 15

This tree caught my eye first thing this morning. I am endlessly fascinated by the way the light comes through the leaves this time of day.  After several unsatisfying attempts to capture the impact of it from a distance, I realized that close up was every bit as beautiful.

Cherry Blossom Explosion

Entry No. 13
I did my best to get this up yesterday but was thwarted at every turn, here it is at last.  Today's official post will be up later this evening.

On The Flipside

Entry No. 14

I wonder why is it that the fronts of flowers get all the glory, when the backs are this sublime?

102 Years Ago Today

In case you were wondering from whom I inherited my sense of wonder, look no further.  Happy 102nd birthday to the original inquiring mind.

The Joy of Yes

This is my reward for braving afternoon traffic on the 101 and the 80 in order to say 'yes' to my son's request to drive home from SF across the Golden Gate Bridge.  These rainbows have been here as long as I can remember, although I don't know when they were painted or whose idea it was.   Anyone?
All I know is they make me happy whenever I see them.

A Lone Patch of Blue

I came outside today just in time to see this last bit of blue sky before the storm clouds took over. I see a man with a crazy pompadour in profile.  My son sees a guy rockin' out on a guitar.  What do you see?

Enduring Wonder

I have loved this plant since I was a child. When my mother sold the house I took plants that the new owner had uprooted and left to die, brought them up here and planted them. Amazingly, they have gone from living where it reaches 114ºF in the summer, to a place where we are lucky if it reaches 75.  And still they thrive, blooming almost continually year round!

I Got Back Up To Do This

Morning Mandolin

I just love the way the light refracts through our old window at this time of day.

Hey Everyone out in the Blogsphere!

I'm starting a new endeavor and I'd like all of you to come along for the ride.  I picked up this Daily Creativity Journal about a year ago at a local Borders that was going out of
business.  In it the author, Noah Scalin, challenged folks to create something everyday for a year and to document it.  Not only document it, but to do it online so as to be held accountable publicly.  I thought about it for quite some time trying to come up with a Grand Theme that people might be interested in and that I could sustain for a year without it feeling like a job.  No big idea really struck me at first. I like to paint, and make jewelry but did I really have the inclination or the time to do it everyday without fail?  I didn't think so. Then a little idea began whispering to me as I went about my daily life. I am like a kid, always noticing things that fascinate me, a glimpse of a pattern here, the way the light falls there.  What if I photographed the things that I saw, this wonder?  I even wrote the word "wondering" down in the journal, but still I slapped the idea back, worrying that it didn't involved "true creation".

Today, however,  as I was watching Super Soul Sunday on OWN and finally reorganizing and cleaning off the items on our mantle,  I surrendered.

I've displayed the sea urchins in the photo below on our mantle for about 10 years.  They are up high in a window sill so I see their beauty mostly in profile.  Today I took them down and gave them a long overdue rinse, and voila! All these beautiful colors that I had forgotten were revealed.  I didn't want to lose the moment so I snapped a picture as I held them in the palm of my hand. That moment I knew I had my year long project,  Wonderlust was born. So here I go. Wish me luck.
