Entry No. 259

It only lasted about 2 hours but it was a welcomed sight.

There Are No Accidents

Entry No. 258

Early this week, something told me that I needed to talk to my friend Dafina regarding my mom, but I hadn't gone ahead and reached out to her.  I haven't seen her in about a year. Today, a series of seemingly unrelated decisions caused me to run into her down by the lake.

Big Sis To The Rescue

Entry No. 255

She called me right when I needed her yesterday, and today she showed up for our first day of caring for our grandmother at home.

Full Circle

Entry No. 252

When I was a kid every other Sunday was hair day around our house.  My grandmother would wash my hair over the sink, very  professionally,  I might add.  She had a spray attachment and tray with a cradle for my neck.  Then, she would detangle, dry and press it with the hot comb. Today, as we sat on the porch as I detangled my grandmother's hair after washing it, we reminisced about how we had come full circle. There was one exception, though.  No scorched ears from the hot comb.

One More Time

Entry No. 251

This light fixture hung in the house I grew up in, in my grandmother's room. Sometimes I would lay on her bed staring at the light and daydreaming about all sorts of stuff.  As an adult it has graced the ceiling in my home in my own bedroom for the last 11 years,--- up until about a week ago when my son broke it.  I had played with the idea of trying to fix it and use it for another purpose, but it is really too fragile. It would seem an easy thing to throw away and replace, but it isn't for reasons too deep to go into here. Before I threw it away, I just wanted to see the light coming through it one more time.

What Is This Place?

Entry No. 247

I had hoped it was some kind of confectionery nirvana, but it turns out Cakeland is an art installation and a pretty intriguing one at that.

Spiral Leaf

Entry No. 244

The sun hit this single leaf in such a way that, out of thousands, it alone caught my eye.

Swirls On Cinderblock

Entry No. 243

The funky design on this building made the 10 minutes I was stuck at this intersection a more pleasant experience.

Smoke From A Distant Fire

Entry No. 236

At first I thought it was smog, the first I'd experienced here.  Turns out it was smoke from a 200 acre fire more than 50 miles away.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Entry No. 234

Every year without exception, my neighbors do it up for Halloween. In fact, they decorate for pretty much every holiday.

These Are-The Peo-ple In Your Neighborhood

Entry No. 233

I don't know if it's the weather or what, but I just keep discovering, "new"  faces around my neighbor- hood who have been here for years.

This one belongs to Jeff Williams. He and his wife, Zeva, run Get Goes Mobile Cafe, out of this spiffy red van.  Find them on Facebook to see when they're in your neighborhood.
