How's That For A Ripple Effect?

Entry No. 272

One of  the Carlston Family Foundation's 2013 Outstanding Teacher Award winners, Yo Azama, poses with his mother.  Mr. Azama was once a self-described angry teen with an orange mohawk.  At age 13 his parents sent him from Okinawa to school in the United States with 5 days notice.   He spoke no English.  He is now teaching Japanese to students at North Salinas High School in  Salinas, Ca. and was nominated for the award by a former student who is now an engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Ca.
