After The Storm

Entry No. 365

Wow, well here it is. The last picture in my one year series called Wonderlust.  It's hard to believe that a just year ago I stepped into this project with the idea of  taking one picture a day of something that caught my eye.  I did not expect for it to change the way that I look at the world so dramatically.  It has caused me to be more observant, and to see beauty where I thought there was none.  To wake up excited about what I might encounter each day, and to see both the natural and man-made worlds as wondrous and worth celebrating.  I'm also thankful for this shift in perception during what turned out to be the year that we lost two very cherished members of our family.  My grandmother,  Elizabeth Hooks, who at 102, was the beautiful subject of at least four of the entries, and my husband's great- grandmother, Rae Giannini, whose 108th birthday is recorded as Entry No. 279. It was a tumultuous year in many ways both in the external world and my internal world.  So, it seems fitting that today's image should be the shining sun that pushed it's way through after the last few days of seemingly endless stormy weather.

Winter Sky

I was outside on the phone with my friend Jen today, and she mentioned how pretty the clouds were. Up until that point, I hadn't  even looked up. She was right.

Same Time Next Year

Entry No. 353

This is my friend Miss L. She and I have met to share a meal and to celebrate our birthdays every year for the last 10 years. Mine is the 30th and hers is the 1st. It began as a way to help her heal after the loss of her husband, now it is a guarantee that we will see eachother at least once during the year.

Mavericks

Entry No. 348

Grant "Twiggy" Baker, of South Africa, celebrates taking first place at today's Mavericks Invitational surf contest. As far as I'm concerned, all competitors were champions, charging over 40 foot waves in Half Moon Bay.  Especially, Mark Healy, who was held under for two waves, only to resurface and continue with his heat.

Why, Indeed?!

Entry No. 446

This is Freddie.  He's got a lot of great tats, ( including a perfect lipstick imprint on his neck), but I liked the sentiment of this one the most.  He's also got an entertainment website and there are cool t-shirts, find them here if you are interested.

I Knew There Was I Reason I Married Him

Entry No. 330

This weekend, in a pinch, I reused this lettuce clam shell to pack up some parsley we didn't use.  My husband kicked it up a notch by adding some paper towel, (100% recycled content, so don't get your panties in a bunch), to soak up moisture and found a new home for a tiny bunch of cilantro.  Now both will actually get used instead of rotting in a bag at the bottom of our crisper drawer.

So Many Questions

Entry No. 329

This elderly woman has lived down the street from me for many years. When I see her walking the neighborhood, she always greets me with a smile and an inquiry about my family.  I don't know her name, or how old she is.  She appears to live alone, but I don't know since she's hard of hearing and speaks very little English.  She told me recently that she had fallen 4 times. I want to help but I don't know what to do.

Look Up

I have been down this street countless times, I have bought things at the Vines nursery, but I never noticed there was a gallery and cafe until today.  The owner said it wasn't the first time he'd heard that. People just don't look up.
